About Active Equine — Quality Horse Rugs, Designed by Riders

Active Equine is a family-owned equine brand built by riders and industry professionals who've spent over 30 years working in the saddlery and horse rug trade. We design, develop and test our own range of horse rugs — and we've now brought that range to Ireland, so Irish horse owners can access the same quality, fit and value that Australian riders have trusted for years.

Our Story

Active Equine was founded with a straightforward belief: horse owners deserve rugs that are properly designed, properly made, and built to last more than one season.

Our team has spent decades in the equine industry — not just selling rugs, but riding horses, competing, and understanding the daily reality of horse ownership. That experience shapes everything about the way we design our products. We work with leading manufacturers, test products in the field, and only release a rug when we're confident it will perform.

What started as a small Australian business has grown steadily each year — and the same commitment to quality and fit that built our reputation in Australia is what we're bringing to Ireland now.

Why We're Coming to Ireland

Irish horse owners are serious about their horses. Whether you're competing at affiliated level, managing a yard, or keeping horses at home, you know how demanding the Irish climate can be — the persistent rain, the Atlantic winds, the changeable shoulder seasons that make rugging genuinely tricky.

We designed our range to handle exactly those conditions. The same waterproofing standards, fill weights and fit that perform in Australian paddocks translate directly to Ireland. The weather is different; the demands on a rug are very similar.

We're launching with our most popular and best-tested range — the Freedom Turnout Collection — and we'll be expanding our Irish offering as we grow.

What Makes Our Rugs Different

Designed by riders, not just manufacturers. Every Active Equine rug is developed by people who actually use them. That means the details that matter to horse owners — shoulder gussets that allow real freedom of movement, correctly positioned surcingles, generous tail flaps, secure but adjustable leg straps — are built in from the start, not added as an afterthought.

Built to last more than one season. We back our own-brand rugs with a 90-day returns policy — considerably longer than the industry standard — because we're confident in the quality. Our rugs are designed to last more than one season under regular use. That's better value over time, even if the upfront price looks comparable.

Fit for more horse types. Our high shoulder gusset design is one of the things our customers mention most. It fits narrow Thoroughbreds, broader warmbloods, cobs and everything in between — giving horses genuine freedom of movement at the shoulder without the rug shifting or rubbing.

Genuine waterproofing. Our premium Freedom range carries a 5000/5000 waterproof and breathability rating — industry-leading figures that reflect real performance, not marketing numbers. Irish horses don't need to be cold and wet all winter.

Our Commitment to You

We're a small, family-run team and we take customer service seriously. If you have a question about sizing, fit, fill weight or anything else, you can contact us directly and you'll hear back from someone who actually knows horses.

We're also committed to ethical sourcing. Every factory we work with has been inspected in person for fair working conditions — something we considered non-negotiable from day one.

Delivery Across Ireland

All orders are fulfilled from our Irish warehouse and shipped across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Europe. We offer free delivery on orders over a qualifying threshold, and our 90-day returns policy gives you confidence to order knowing you can return if something isn't right.

We're glad to be here. If you're an Irish horse owner looking for rugs that genuinely fit, genuinely last and genuinely keep your horse protected — you've come to the right place.
